The delicate and fleeting tastes of spring have given way to vibrant summertime flavors at Rafns' Restaurant. With the early arrival of several fruit and vegetable crops in the Willamette Valley, Rafns’ is already serving savory dishes that feature fresh basil, tomatoes, cucumbers, and fennel, while the dessert menu is dominated by fresh blueberries and blackberries.
A few highlights of the new summer dinner menu are Briar Rose Creamery Aged Goat Cheese with Organic Apple Compote ($7), Risotto with Roasted Pumpkin Seed “Pesto” ($21), Heirloom Tomato Salad with Organic Lettuces and Willamette Valley aged Fontina ($16), and Organic Cream Cheese Tart with Local Blueberry Preserve ($7).
Rafns’ purchases fresh produce and humanely-raised meats from a handful of local farms and ranches, including Osprey Farm (Salem), Minto Island Growers (Salem), Fresh To You Produce (Stayton), Denison Farms (Corvallis), McK Ranch (Dallas), and Cattail Creek Lamb (Junction City), among many others.
Rafns’ is located at 479 Court St. NE in the heart of downtown Salem. The restaurant is open for lunch 11:30am to 2pm and dinner 5pm to 8pm, Tuesday through Saturday. Reservations are recommended for dinner by calling 503-580-2936.
